How CoinList Drives User Acquisition Through Incentivized Testnets

Testnets Aug 1, 2024

An incentivized testnet is an often gamified program where external validators, developers, and other users are encouraged to utilize and participate in testing a blockchain network in return for rewards. Thoughtfully designed testnets can prime projects for token launches and help bootstrap quality communities before mainnet.

As the premier token launch platform, CoinList has helped a broad range of protocols acquire participants for their testnet campaigns. Below are five case studies of recent testnet campaigns on CoinList — Voi Network, Talent Protocol, Subsquid, Hybrid, and Bondex — and how our user acquisition campaigns helped them succeed.

1. Voi Network Incentivized Testnet

Campaign Overview: Voi Network, a Layer 1 blockchain fostering the next generation of community-driven blockchains (CDBs), ran its testnet campaign on CoinList in June 2024. The purpose of Voi’s testnet was to increase visibility and onboard more node runners, developers, and community members. Voi offered 100,000,000 VOI tokens (1.0% of the total supply) to qualifying participants for their contributions. Landing Page »

Category: Layer 1

Results: Voi’s ecosystem experienced substantial growth both directly on its network and on its social channels, which its team attributed almost exclusively to their CoinList campaign. Approximately three months after launch, Voi achieved:

  • 840% growth in X followers
  • 678% growth in Discord channel members
  • 289% growth in Telegram chat members
  • 383% growth in online nodes
  • 567% growth in voting nodes
  • 1,677% growth in Kibisis users

Following the success of their testnet, Benedict Dixon, Co-Founder of Voi Network, told us:

“It was a crazy couple of weeks onboarding users, that was for sure! Voi didn’t get any other significant marketing channels activated for our testnet, as the growth from CoinList was more than enough in many ways.”

2. Talent Protocol Incentivized Testnet

Campaign Overview: In March 2024, Talent Protocol, a CoinList Seed company that leverages blockchain and AI to unlock rich reputation data and enhance visibility of human potential, launched its testnet on CoinList. In an effort to fine-tune the protocol and the user experience of the Talent Passport App, Talent Protocol offered 5,000,000 TAL tokens (0.5% of the token supply) to qualifying participants for their contributions. • 212,000 unique wallets connected
  • Quests in collaboration with Base, Celo, ENS, DEGEN, Gitcoin, Lens, and Worldcoin
  • New builders deploying their first smart contracts on Base and Celo
  • Great feedback about community moderation

3. Subsquid Incentivized Testnet

Campaign Overview: Subsquid, a decentralized data framework that offers efficient and scalable solutions for extracting and processing on-chain data, ran its testnet campaign on CoinList in September 2023 before launching its token on CoinList in 2024. The purpose of Subsquid’s testnet was to incentivize node operators, developers, and community members to battle-test the network, complete quests, and participate in other activities that contributed to the protocol’s early development. Subsquid offered a reward pool of 6,685,000 SQD (0.5% of total supply) for completing on-chain and off-chain activities. Landing Page »

  • 16,277 verified dev participants (verified refers to individuals who completed development tasks)
  • 49,957 squids (indexers) deployed on testnet
  • 56,978,970 tokens claimed

4. Hybrid Incentivized Testnet

Campaign Overview: Hybrid, an on-chain intelligence platform that integrates AI and blockchain to boost efficiency of Web3 applications, ran its testnet on CoinList in June 2024. In an effort to battle-test the network’s reliability, operations, and performance, Hybrid offered 60,000,000 HYB tokens (6% of the total supply) to qualifying participants for their contributions.
