A Deep Dive into Moca Network
Last week, we announced the MOCA Token Launch on CoinList, live until May 2 at 00:00 UTC.
MOCA, the token of Moca Network, has been launched by MOCA Foundation, with Animoca Brands and its flagship project Mocaverse serving as key launch partners.
We recently sat down with the Moca team to learn more about the vision for the Moca Network, the utility of the MOCA token utility, their growth strategy, recent achievements and partnerships, and what sets them apart from similar platforms.
Let’s dive in.
1. What is the Moca Network?
The Moca Network is an interoperable infrastructure network layer built to redefine network effect in the Web3 space, fully seeded and backed by Animoca Brands 450+ portfolio ecosystem and Mocaverse Partner Network of 700M+ addressable users.
Animoca Brands is an early adopter and advocate of Web3, building its network for the past 7 years and investing in 450+ companies mainly in key cultural verticals like gaming, sports, music, and metaverse including Opensea, The Sandbox (majority owned), Yuga Labs, Pixels, Axie Infinity, and more.
MOCA is the native token powering the Moca Network, with the full network value accruing back to MOCA. MOCA holders will contribute to and share in the success of the collective network.
2. What problems and opportunities does it address?
The Web3 space is fragmented where projects work in silo with a PvP mindset. The Moca Network aims to break the barriers among fragmented ecosystems by building an interoperable infrastructure network layer to empower cross-pollination of users and resources across the entire network across a 100+ partners in the Mocaverse Partner Network.
Moca Network is onboarding and integrating with major Web2 names such as Ubisoft, KDDI (Japan telecom), and more for mass onboarding with the web2 friendly blockchain abstraction infrastructure.
There’s no direct comparable ecosystem in terms of size for the complete Moca Network, where the closest reference would be the likes of Coinbase, Binance, and similar ecosystems.
3. What is the relationship between Moca Network, Mocaverse, and Animoca Brands?
Mocaverse and Animoca Brands are the key launch partners of MOCA, the one token powering the full Moca Network. Mocaverse is at the center of gravity of the entire Animoca Brands Network. Yat Siu, all Animoca C-Levels, and the full ecosystem of portcos and subsidiaries (incl. Animoca Japan, Animoca Ventures) are working on and building around Mocaverse and MOCA.
Projects supported by Animoca have been airdropping tokens to the Moca community, which serves as a strong proof that the Animoca ecosystem is consolidating its network value as a collective to the Mocaverse project and the MOCA token.
- Previous airdrops: PIXEL, FIRE, PARAM, XION, LL, and more
4. What are the inherent use cases of the MOCA token?
MOCA is not just an NFT or GameFi token. It serves as the backbone of Moca Network, akin to a “gas fee”, to power core products and services that bring network effects with the direct access to a 700M+ addressable user base and 450+ portfolio companies.
- Key utilities includes:
- Serving as the primary payment currency of the Mocaverse network for digital purchases, gameplay sinks, and various other uses;.
- Functioning as an omni-chain transaction fee on a “pay per usage” model for services;
- Recognized as Proof-Of-Loyalty, where users can earn more incentives by holding MOCA and participating in products like MocaList Launchpad, among others.
5. You note partnerships with CyberConnect, Chiliz, as well as gaming platforms like Playember, Skyark Chronicles, and many others. What do these partnerships unlock for the Moca Network and what other use cases are you excited about?
These partners are all joining the Moca Network by integrating with the interop infrastructure, token-gating based on Moca ID, cross-pollinating user base, and sharing the Account, ID and reputation systems. As the network grows sharing the same public infrastructure, the stronger the network effect would grow.
In addition, MOCA holders can get early access to projects and enjoy the benefits of sharing the success of the network by holding MOCA.
6. How does Moca Network differentiate itself from other blockchain-based gaming platforms like Immutable?
Mocaverse is a L1-like network (without being a chain) while being chain and ecosystem-agnostic, with the interoperable infrastructure to onboard projects and users. Unlike most chains out there building out the tech first then onboard users, we took an opposite starting point with a pre-existing network of projects and users from day 1, an ecosystem Animoca Brands has been building in the past 7 years in Web3.
Mocaverse aims to foster interoperability and distribution throughout a network unrestricted by any specific chains, wallets, or fragmentations. Its initial focus is on Digital Identity, the most fundamental and composable layer.
7. What key milestones and developments does the Moca Network aim to achieve in the near to mid-term future?
Mocaverse has achieved a lot and will continue to grow the Moca Network together with Animoca Brands and other partners for mass adoption. Key achievements include:
- NFT at 120m+ market cap and 60m+ trading volume to date
- NFT achieved 72x price increase from mint price (0.069eth to 5eth)
- Over 1.4 million Moca ID (On-chain reputation-based identity) mints in less than 4 months
The focus in the near future will be on facilitating network partner onboarding via infrastructure integration, accelerating user onboarding via renowned Web2 partners, and building on MocaList pipeline and network value accrual.
8. What is the best way to get involved in the Mocaverse?
There are multiple ways to get involved:
- Mint a Moca ID (free)
- Participate in the MOCA launch on CoinList
- Buy a Moca NFT
- Earn RP by participating in Moca ID-enabled partner missions
